I have lived here all of my life and I have a few tips for your relocation to St Louis.
St. Louis has many cities within it's huge County. There are over 60 cities in St Louis dispersed across the area. Many of them overlap the school districts. For instance, Chesterfield in the Parkway and Rockwood School Districts. Ballwin is in the Parkway and Rockwood School Districts but Kirkwood is in the Kirkwood School District. The cities of Ladue and Clayton are also within the Ladue and Clayton School Districts and also have many private schools in the areas.
St Louis has many different municipalities (or cities) that have their own inspection processes. So you will need to know which city you are in to determine what inspections to have. Your Realtor should know this.
St Louis has easy transportation access vs. many other large cities. You can get just about anywhere is 30 minutes or less.
St Louis has more free public entertainment than most cities. The parks, the St. Louis Zoo and the History museum are free to both in town and out of town guests.
